Music for Anello (wma -- 808Kb)

Steps Key:

bow

= left or right = bring foot back, lowering whole body so that knee touches floor, then straighten and bring foot back together -- for faster bow, don't need to go all the way down to the floor

movimento literally just a movement = usually a quick rise to tiptoe and lower or a small jump (in place or in any direction)

saltarello left

= skipped double = forward left, forward right, forward left, hop on left while right kick or brush forward = syncopated rhythm

piva double left = chasing double = forward on left, bring right toe right under left heel bumping left leg into a kick, forward step left

ripresa right

= right single side, tuck left toe under under right heel, right single side, left close together


Choreography:

This is a 15th-century dance for four -- traditionally 2 men and 2 women. The dance begins with the two couples holding hands, one couple behind the other, all facing the same way.

Part 1
1-4 bow
1-16 - 8 salterello doubles around the room - L, R, L, R, L, R, L, R**
** On the last salterello double, the 1st couple turns around to face the 2nd couple.

Part 2
1 - Men movimento
2 - Women movimento
3-10 - Men - 2 salterello doubles exchanging places across the circle (passing right shoulders)
1 - Women movimento
2 - Men movimento
3-10 - Women - 2 salterello doubles exchanging places across the circle
(passing right shoulders)

Part 3
1 - Men movimento
2 - Women movimento
3-4 Men do a double turning around left shoulder
1 - Women movimento
2 - Men movimento

3-4 Women do a double turning around left shoulder

Part 4
1-4 Men do 4 piva doubles exchanging places by crossing behind their partner

1-4 Women do 4 piva doubles exchanging places by crossing behind their partner

Part 5
1 - Men movimento
2 - Women movimento
3 - Men movimento
4 - Women movimento
5-6 Men ripresa (right) to join partner

Parts 1-5
Repeat whole dance with Women's and Men's parts reversed, i.e. Women leading.

Part 6
Bow together - left foot back.
